FROM GLASSBLOWING TO GLASS TECHNOLGY
In 1950 two glassblowers from Philips started their own glassblowing company in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The company was established by Andre Pulles and Jan Hanique, to produce laboratory glassware for hospitals ,universities and chemical industries. From its modest beginnings in a small workshop to its position today, the company can look back on a continuous growth in precision engineering of glass products.
The year 2010 marks a great milestone for Pulles & Hanique.
It is the 60th anniversary of the company's founding.
Andre Pulles en Jan Hanique were always looking for new opportunities. In 1962 , when the company already had moved to a new building, they developed a production line for filtering glassware with an advanced recipe from Schott Germany, which was found in an old Schott- Jena journal from 1946.
In the early 70s, Pulles & Hanique gained the exclusive dealership for Jobling and Pyrex glass instruments.Herewith they were able to serve more customers with specialties made by there own master glassblowers and standerd quality glassware from England and France.
This international orientation, in contrary of other glassblowing companies in The Netherlands, also brought customers in other countries.
Now in 2010, 50% of the products are delivered worldwide.
In 1975, Pulles & Hanique produced over 70.000 glass stopcocks, with a speciality in high vacuum stopcocks. In that time, the apparatus to gain high vacuum were made out of glass by their own employees.
In the 80s, when laboratory automation had decreased the need for laboratory glassware,
Pulles & Hanique became representative for the quartz glass producer Hereaus Germany.
This was a golden coorpation. The combination of the craftsmanship of the employees and "the new" material quartz glass, made it possible to step into the new markets for semiconductor industry and glass fiber.
Both markets had an enormous need for tools and preforms made of quartz glass.
Meanwhile, the third premise was in use in Veldhoven, and the company operated as a supplier of custom made instruments and components for the high tech industry, with a worldwide clientele.
Through the dealership of Corning, Macor machinable glass ceramics, Pulles & Hanique was able to serve new customers in the growing market for ultra-high-vacuum apparatus.
Investments in CNC grinding units and engineering capacity lead to customers in the industry for front-end semiconductor production. Tolerances up to 1 mu, are not yet the end of further future developments.
In 2008 Pulles & Hanique moved to a new plant of 4000 m2 engineering and production facilities.
"Creating" instruments and components , is probably the best term to express the skills and craftsmanship of our glass technicians.
To see the right colour of the flame, to feel the right moment within the viscosity curve of the heated glass, before blowing or welding; or to hear the sound of the diamond wheel touching the glass while adjusting the machinery settings, are skills lead by dedication and satisfaction of creating the best possible product.
